The 98-foot-long Space Launch System (SLS) launch vehicle reportedly launched at 1:47 am ET from the Kennedy Space Center’s launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The SLS launch vehicle launched the Orion spacecraft into space, which NASA plans to use to transport astronauts in the future, but this time there are no humans on board, only mannequins.
Orion is expected to travel about two million kilometers and, after passing the Moon’s orbit, make its return journey and complete it in about 25 days. According to NASA’s plans, the capsule will crash into the Pacific Ocean off San Diego on December 11, where rescuers will be waiting to take it to safety.
As Ukrinform reported, the launch of the Artemis I mission, originally scheduled for August, was delayed several times for technical reasons as well as adverse weather conditions.
