The Orion spacecraft, which the American space agency (NASA) sent to the moon last week as part of the Artemis I mission, reached its target.

As Ukrinform reports, Sky News reports this.

The ship flew around the moon and approached it at a distance of 128 km. This fairly close approach was caused by the spacecraft and three test dummies being on the far side of the Moon.

As a result, flight controllers in Houston (USA) faced a half-hour communications blackout, meaning they didn’t know if a critical engine launch had been successful until the capsule left the Moon.

When the spacecraft left the Moon, onboard cameras sent back an image of Earth with a blue dot on a black background.

If all goes according to plan, another engine launch vehicle will take it to this orbit on Friday.

NASA’s spacecraft will spend about a week in lunar orbit before heading home, and is scheduled to land in the Pacific Ocean on Dec.

Orion is said to have reached the moon for the first time since the success of the Apollo program 50 years ago.

As Ukrinform reports, on November 16, the American space agency (NASA) launched the Artemis I mission, whose ultimate goal is to return a human to the moon.
