To this day, Gran Turismo remains the last title of one of the most relevant and longest-running franchises in PlayStation history. And there are plenty of reasons for that, as those of us who have played it since its earliest installments (even if we haven’t been able to enjoy the latest ones) have incredible memories of the original experience. The story, which began writing on December 7, 1997, although only in Japan, since its arrival in other markets did not take place until May 1998.
Its first installment, with its 11 circuits, 3 performance circuits and several time trials, became the best-selling game for the first generation PlayStation in its own right. It also has endurance racing, 3 licenses and 172 cars, numbers that may not be that impressive today, but at the time it left many of us in awe and gave us countless hours of driving fun. a simulator that at the time looked so realistic it was surprising:
Subsequent editions have raised the bar, on many occasions pushing the next generation PlayStation hardware to the max while providing an increasingly realistic and varied experience, from more “arcade” modes and settings to fairly complete driving simulations of each of the more than 420 vehicle models to be found in it.
So in a few days the 25th anniversary of the franchise will be completed and as we can read on the console’s official blog, Sony and Polyphony Digital already have a special update ready for Gran Turismo 7 to celebrate its quarter century. The update, which will be free and will give access to everything related to the new world finals of the Gran Turismo World Series, will revive this competition, which was already held in 2018 and 2019, but was later suspended due to the pandemic.
The event, which will be broadcast live, will bring together a total of 56 Gran Turismo drivers representing 19 countries between November 24 and 27 in Monaco (where previous editions have been held). Three different championships divided into four days.
With the Gran Turismo 7 update, players will have access to events taking place in Monaco, increased rewards, special campaigns and other activities. This is the full schedule:
For a limited time (from November 24th to December 5th), there will be higher rewards for each race in Sport mode.
