CDPR wants to release a remake of the first Witcher after The Witcher 4

After Cyberpunk 2077, which didn’t do too well despite returning in recent months, it seems that CD PROJEKT RED (CDPR) is preparing a battery of titles based on The Witcher IP, in addition, it is probably already working on a sequel to the aforementioned Cyberpunk 2077. The Polish company is developing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt of the next generation and has screened The Witcher 4 (under the code name Polaris) and a remake of the first part.

Adam KiciƄski, Chairman of the Board and Deputy CEO of CD PROJEKT RED, said of the company’s latest revenue estimate that The remake of the first Witcher will be released after The Witcher 4 with the aim that the former could benefit from the work done with the latter in terms of technology, especially with regard to the use and implementation of the Unreal Engine 5. At the design level, deep changes would be introduced to make it a truly open-world game and it would apparently developed by Fool’s Theory, the company behind Seven: The Days Long Gone created by former CDPR employees.

But aside from fads like the graphical overhaul, which is generally given too much importance, and the open worlds, which seem like a must, the biggest pending score that the remake of the first Witcher has to solve is the control system that was in the original game and still is it is bad. In fact, more than one might have been scared, especially if they had previously played either of the two subsequent installments, especially the third, which became one of the best games of the last decade.

Codenamed Polaris, The Witcher 4 would be the first CD PROJEKT RED game developed with Unreal Engine 5.The Polish company therefore partnered with Epic Games to improve the engine’s capabilities when it comes to open-world role-playing games.

Another project that CDPR would be involved in is a spin-off codenamed Sirius which would be developed by The Molass Flood, which was bought by CD PROJEKT RED about a year ago. It is not known which title will be launched first, Polaris or Sirius.

CDPR seems to be quite active and intend to outsource the development of some of their games to other companies with the possible intention of having a faster release rate.
