Gorilla Glass is a chemically reinforced glass used for protective films on the displays of many smartphones, especially high-end ones. Corning, the company responsible for developing glass, promises to go one step further Gorilla Glass Victus 2whose new formulation should offer greater resistance to drops on rough surfaces while maintaining the same scratch resistance as the first generation Victus.
The first generation of Victus glass was launched two years ago with the aim of resisting a two meter drop. Now, Corning intends to up its ante with the Victus 2 build glass that is able to withstand being dropped from waist height onto rougher surfaces. On the other hand, the company also emphasized that the pressure on the screen has increased because current smartphones are fifteen percent heavier and ten percent larger than four years ago.

Corning explains that based on its own laboratory tests, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 was it can “survive” falls from a height of up to one meter onto a concrete surface. He also said that “Victus 2 continued to survive drops of up to two meters onto an asphalt-like surface and retained up to four times better scratch resistance than competing aluminosilicates.” Then we will have to find out if in real life the resistance is what Corning says it is.
It is not yet known which devices will release Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to protect their screens. Regardless of whether the data exposed by Corning is supported in real life, the truth is that protective films made from its glass are widely used, with the implementation scale, according to the company, in more than 8,000 million devices.
The fact that Apple invested $250 million in Corning a few years ago shows that its good work with glass is also recognized by device manufacturers.
