US space forces received the first images from the missile attack warning system satellite. This was reported by the press service of Millennium Space Systems, the developer of the device.
The satellite was launched in July, after which it was supposed to reach stable orbit and activate all systems. The main device of the device is the L3Harris camera – it has now transmitted the first images. “Our team was satisfied with the performance of the sensor after seeing the first pictures. Soon we will connect it to the missile launch warning system”– said Space Force Colonel Heather Bogsti.
WFOV and similar satellites record missile launches with infrared radiation from engine flares. This makes it possible to prepare the anti-missile and anti-aircraft forces in a timely manner and to give them a target and instructions. The satellite’s camera is wide-angle and covers an area of 3,000 kilometers. The calibration of the devices will continue until January 2023, after which the operation of the device will begin.
