Google has announced several new features over the holidays for Android smartphones and tablets, as well as Wear OS devices. One is Reading Mode, which Google says “creates an accessible reading experience” for people who are blind, visually impaired or dyslexic. This feature allows you to adjust the font style and size, line spacing and background color, as well as switch between dark and light modes. It can even have speech synthesis with speed and volume control. Reader mode can be downloaded to devices running Android 9.0 or higher via the Google Play Store.
Starting next week, you will be able to stream videos directly from the Google TV app to your Android TV or Google TV-based Smart TV with a single tap. You can even view other options while watching and use your device as a remote control.
Best of all, Google makes it easy to share your digital car keys with friends and family. You can also see and change who has access to your car in the digital wallet app on your phone. The feature is currently available on Google Pixel and iPhone devices and will soon be available on select phones running Android 12 or later.
Google Photos will now feature new collage styles from Australian husband-and-wife visual duo DABSMYLA and acclaimed watercolor artist Yao Cheng Design. To use this feature, select your photos, choose a design and change the layout by dragging and dropping the image.
Google has also made improvements to Wear OS. One of them is tiles for favorites and sunrise and sunset times. The Google Keep app for Wear OS has also been updated to make it easier to view photos, collaborators, and background colors. Finally, you can use the Google Assistant to quickly start a workout through the adidas Running app. Say “Hey Google, start running with Adidas Running” and the app will track your workout right away.
Other notable new features include a new search widget on YouTube’s home screen and Gboard’s Emoji Kitchen, where you can combine new emojis into different sticker combinations. Google Messages also allows you to reply to a specific message.
