California-based Archer Aviation has successfully completed its first transit flight with the Maker prototype vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by FutureFlight.
The flight itself took place on November 29 near Archer Aviation’s headquarters in San Jose, California, but the company has only revealed details now.
Designed for two passengers, the prototype air taxi rose to an altitude of more than 73 meters and reached speeds of 169 km/h during flight.
“This significant achievement is testament to the countless hours of design, modeling and wind tunnel testing our team has spent behind the scenes,” said Jeff Bauer, the company’s chief engineer.
It is noted that the Maker air taxi is just a prototype for the Midnight air taxi that the company plans to produce in the future. The flying machine is designed for 4 passengers and a pilot.
The first test flights are scheduled for the first half of next year, and official flight clearance from the US Civil Aviation Administration is expected by the end of 2024.
As reported by Ukrinform, British company Vertical Aerospace has announced the first flight of its VX4 electric aerotaxi prototype with vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL).
