There are a lot of rumors about the security of WhatsApp, and there are reasons for it: Every few months, the instant messaging service gets into scandals about user data leaks. How safe are voice messages on WhatsApp?

Security issues have been in the messenger since its inception. The last major leak of user data occurred in April 2022. Earlier this month, security experts warned of an attack that killed 30,000 people. According to analysts, unknown attackers are sending messages disguised as WhatsApp Notifier.

In the letter, the user is invited to listen to a voice message allegedly arrived on WhatsApp. Clicking the play button will automatically redirect you to the phishing site with “Trojan” JS/Kryptic. Malware infiltrates users’ smartphones and transmits their data to attackers.

Interestingly, emails are not subject to spam filters from Google and other email services. This is because cybercriminals somehow manage to use one of the addresses of government agencies. The post office “sees” the trusted email and gives it the green light.

Here you can argue: although this time the virus threat is not related to WhatsApp itself, voicemails themselves do not steal data. But quite so. Cybercriminals wouldn’t be able to send letters with a “pleasant” surprise if they didn’t have a database of messenger users’ email addresses. So, the data leak has already happened.
