The US is finally launching the first phase of the Artemis program, which is expected to return astronauts to the moon in 2025, while China plans to establish a base on the moon almost at the same time, according to the latest data. As part of the current plans of the Celestial Empire, they want to establish a base on our natural satellite by 2028. But that means you’ll have to start building it much sooner. The station will be powered by a nuclear reactor

We are currently developing a new system that uses nuclear power to meet the long-term energy needs of the lunar station, said Wu Weizhen, the lead developer of China’s lunar exploration program.

It is not yet clear what will become of China’s Moon base, but no one is saying that it will be a facility designed for people to stay there for long periods of time. It is known that we are talking about a landing module, a bunker, a lunar rover and an orbital station. Previously, there was information that the power of a nuclear facility to power such a base can reach 1 MW.

Earlier, the US also talked about placing a nuclear facility on the Moon by 2030. So, given the accelerating race to develop the Moon, there could indeed be two bases there in 10 years, even if they are not yet designed for the long-term residence of astronauts. Source
