Starlink will begin to limit its customers’ data downloads from the internet. This was reported by CNET.

Media reporters pointed to documents on the service’s website, which stated that the company will begin limiting its users in February 2023. Subscribers who exceed the one terabyte limit within 30 days will only be able to use Starlink at low speed.

The authors noted that SpaceX announced this innovation in November and talked about the introduction of restrictions in December. However, the company has decided to postpone this until February.

According to experts, the practice of “honest use” of Internet networks is aimed at responsible consumption of Starlink services. Journalists noted that similar limits have emerged in other communication providers. The measure will reduce the load on networks and increase the bandwidth of Starlink infrastructure. “At least existing Starlink customers won’t have to deal with such changes in the middle of the busy festive season”– pointed out the authors.

As a result, journalists noted that the average speed of Starlink Internet in the USA fell significantly in the third quarter – to 53 megabits per second. In the second quarter that figure was 63 megabits per second.
