TSMC invests $40 billion to build second US plant

TSMC announced that invests $40 billion to expand its US semiconductor manufacturing facility.🇧🇷 After the construction of the first plant has already begun, new investments that almost four times more than originally invested for the second plantwhich will also operate in Arizona.

The US$40 billion investment a Taiwanese manufacturer is making in the US state of Arizona is the largest foreign investment ever recorded there, as well as one of the largest international investments ever made in the US. With two factories in total, TSMC will create 10,000 “high paying” jobs.

The new plant will expand the production of chips on the 3-nm process technology

The forecast for the completion of construction and the start of operation is 2026. Two factories will have the capacity to produce 600 thousand plates per year firstly. The second plant will be one of TSMC’s most advanced plants outside of Taiwan. Unlike the first plant already under construction in Arizona and will use a 5nm manufacturing process, TSMC’s new facility will focus on N3 (3nm) and its variants N3E, N3P and N3X.

The Taiwanese company is also aiming to have its own water treatment plant, which, once completed, will allow TSMC’s facilities not to waste liquids. The station is currently in the early planning stages.

“After the completion of TSMC, Arizona aims to become the greenest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the United States by producing the most advanced semiconductor process in the country, enabling a new generation of low-power, high-performance computing products for years to come,” TSMC said in a statement. President Mark Liu.

“I am honored that we were able to gather here to celebrate this historic achievement by TSMC, which is a testament to our commitment to building the semiconductor ecosystem here in the US to better serve our customers,” said CEO CC Wei.

The announcements were made at an event marking the arrival of the first equipment from the Arizona plant, which is already under construction. The event was attended by well-known people in the technology industry such as Lisa Su, AMD CEO, Jensen Huang, NVIDIA President and CEO, and Tim Cook, Apple CEO, who are TSMC’s top customers.
