Diablo IV will be the first game in the franchise to have a paid season pass. In both Diablo II and Diablo III, each new season was always completely free and had no payment method to set “artificial” separation between the players, something that was very positive, and that will unfortunately change.

That Diablo IV will be using paid season passes is not a coincidence, it’s something that other titles such as The Division 2 and Destiny 2 already use, and it’s a result of the major studios jumping to game as a service model, at the expense of the classic product model. According to Blizzard, the paid season pass will be supplemented by a structural rotation of content and that it will not be released with the first season already activated.

The first season will launch weeks after the game’s June 6 launch. The purpose of this small delay is to ensure that the Season Pass does not give players who pre-purchase the game a huge advantage. Its duration will be three months. this means that the most active players will have no problem taking advantage of it, but what about those who have very little time to play? Well, they won’t enjoy it on the same level, that’s for sure, and that three months might not be enough.

The classification mode, popularly known as “ladder”, will work in a similar way to Diablo II, heor which means that every player who wants to participate in it will start from scratch. Each season will, as we said, last for three months, and each season will have its own paid ticket. This will offer some specific benefits:

  • We will be able to get cosmetic items that theoretically do not export the game.
  • We gain experience by performing specific actions in the game.
  • It will be cross-platform, meaning we can buy it on Xbox and access it on PC.
  • The pass will require about 75 hours to complete. It won’t be necessary to play hard and daily to get the most out of it.
  • Season Pass progression will be fully cross-platform, so we can progress on console and PC and vice versa.

We won’t have to limit ourselves to specific things to advance in the season pass, because according to those responsible for Diablo IV, we will also advance killing enemies, completing dungeons and completing game tasks. We will bring more information in the coming weeks.

In another vein, Blizzard also confirmed that many of the most popular and important classic items will be present again in Diablo IV. Among the names they gave are the bow “Wind Power”, the greatsword “The Godfather”, the gloves “Wizard’s Fist”, and the fireproof “Harlequin Plume”, also known as “Shako”.
