Rumors about the PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim have intensified in recent days with information that, based on a statement from Hideaki Nishin, Sony’s senior vice president of platform experience, led to a series of statements totally out of context and exaggerated with the sole intention of “attracting clicks”.
You may have read in the last few days that the PS5 Pro will arrive in 2023, or that this console will arrive before the PS5 Slim, and that this information is based on an interview with Hideaki Nishino, but as I said, it is exaggerated and taken out of context. Famitsu, a source who interviewed a Sony executive, literally asked him, “The PS5 has entered its third year. The PS4 Pro came out three years after (from the PS4), but we’d like to Can you tell us about future projects?«.
To this question, Nishino literally said, “We believe that cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units by the end of fiscal year 2022, and this will be a very important period for our platform. We won’t talk about anything specific now, but we look forward to talking later next year (2023)«.

Famitsu did a question focused on “future projects”, something completely general that doesn’t necessarily mean PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim, and Nishino gave the expected answer that they have nothing to say and that we’ll wait until 2023. Does this mean we’ll see PS5 Pro or PS5 Slim in 2023? Well, no, and to say otherwise is to force an interpretation that has no basis.
It is true that over the past few months we have seen many rumors as well as speculations from relatively reliable sources that generally said that the launch of the PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim was only a matter of time, and some even dared to give dates. Without elaborating further, Zuby_Tech said that the PS5 Slim will arrive first and that it will land in September 2023, while the PS5 Pro will go to November 2024.
It makes sense to think that the PS5 Slim will come first, as this console will allow Sony to better amortize the original console’s design and hardware. An earlier launch of the PS5 Pro would be counterproductive as it could end up cannibalizing the sales of the PS5 Slim. And speaking of the PS5 Slim, remember that according to a reliable source, Sony would have already completed the said console and that modular design centered on a replaceable optical drivewhich would allow it to unify production and end the current models, divided into a version without an optical drive and another with said drive.
This would be a model that could debut in late 2023, a console with a removable optical drive, although as I already told you we have nothing confirmed, so we just have to wait until Sony decides to make an official announcement. From my side, I am clear, in 2023 I would bet on the Slim model, later on the Pro.
