Microsoft is preparing three feature updates for Windows 11

In 2022, Microsoft released two sets of features for its latest operating system. The first, version 22H2, or “Update 2022”, arrived in September, and the second, called “moment 1”, landed a month later. It might be a little confusing for a Windows enthusiast, as Microsoft is reluctant to reveal its confusing update policy. However, a recent report by Windows Central tries to clarify the situation and provide a brief overview of the Windows 11 updates that will be released in 2023.

According to Zach Bowden of Windows Central, the next feature release for Windows 11 will arrive in February or March 2023. We already know what features Moment 2 will bring (including a number of controversial changes). Also, some of these features are already available in the stable version of Windows 11 22H2.

The “Moment 2” update brings a revitalized tablet mode, a much improved notification area (system tray), improvements for Windows search, a better task manager, a new power management page, full-screen widgets, and more. All of these changes will continue Microsoft’s efforts to address key user criticism and make Windows 11 more modern and aesthetically pleasing.

Speaking of modernity, expect the first feature update in 2023 to bring a number of redesigns to some legacy dialogs from the Windows 8 era. Windows 11 preview builds, Select Date and Time, Rename This PC, Reset, Windows Firewall and Go Back to Previous build UI .

As for the “3rd moment” update, users can expect it in the middle of the year, as reported a few weeks ago. The version is expected to be released probably in May or June 2023. We don’t know what features are expected, but it is said that Microsoft will continue to improve Windows Search and offer a number of updates for dual-screen devices. The software giant is also preparing to replace the standard Mail and Calendar apps with a new Outlook web client.

Finally, “moment 4” should be released in September or October 2024. The report says the “an 4” update could be Windows 11 23H2. Unlike Windows 11 22H2 and its extensive list of new features, Windows 11 23H2 will be a smaller version with slightly less impressive new features.

In summary, Microsoft’s allegedly Prepared for Windows 11 in 2023:

  • Windows 11 22H2 “2nd moment” in February or May 2023
  • Windows 11 22H2 “an 3” in May or June 2023
  • Windows 11 “23H2” or “Moment 4” in September or October 2023

As always, keep in mind that the report has not been verified, so be skeptical.
