Your Google smart speakers can be used to spy on you. A new report has revealed that hackers can use smart speakers to listen to your private conversations at home. Here are all the details about this vulnerability.
Researcher Matt Kunze discovered that hackers can spy on Google Home smart speaker users. Kuntze discovered that the Nest Mini had a fake or “backdoor” account that could be created using the Google Home app. In addition, the account can be used to control the smart column. In other words, a malicious hacker basically has remote access to your home microphone channel.
After this discovery, Kuntze shared the information with the search engine giant, which rewarded him with a hefty $107,500. The fake account was able to control the smart speaker and allowed hackers to send commands remotely via a cloud-based API that allows two or more computer programs to communicate with each other. The hacker was also able to send a request to Google’s server requesting a connection to the smart speaker.
It even allows a hacker to access other smart home products, unlock front doors, control smart devices, and possibly even do online transactions, among other things. Malicious people can have the speaker call their phone, allowing them to listen to the conversation in the victim’s home via the speaker’s microphone.
