In 2022, solar panels with a total capacity of more than 1 gigawatt were installed in Austria, a record for all previous years.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to ORF.

According to estimates, photovoltaic systems with a peak capacity of 1,000 to 1,400 megawatts were installed last year. This roughly corresponds to the capacity of Ybbs-Persenbeug and Wallsee-Mitterkirchen, the third and fourth largest power plants of the Danube River.

At the same time, the Photovoltaic Austria industry association assumes that the total capacity of new photovoltaic systems reached 1,200 MW last year. Technology Platform Photovoltaic (TPPV) also predicts an increase in peak power from 1,000 to 1,200 MW. Market analysis company Branchenradar usually calls the figure 1.37 GW.

However, the final data for 2022 will be published by the Austrian Ministry of Climate in the middle of this year, and the Austrian Statistical Institute will only summarize the results at the end of 2023.

“Today we see extraordinary activity in the solar market… This development is very close to the numbers we need to achieve our national targets,” said TPPV CEO Hubert Fechner.

According to his estimates, in the period 2023-2030, Austria will install photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 1.2 to 1.5 GW each year.

It is stated that in 2021, the capacity of new solar panels will double to 740 MW. High electricity prices gave an additional impetus to the development of the industry.

As reported, the Austrian federal government plans to increase the total capacity of photovoltaic systems installed in the country to 13 GW by 2030, which will be 15% of the total electricity production.
