Although the main role at CES 2023 fell to the big brands, for obvious reasons devices like this remarkable Sol Reader also deserve their share of attention, because regardless of whether they make it to market or not, and if they do, whether they become success or failure, there is something we cannot deny its creators, and that is creativity and innovation. Of course, this in itself does not guarantee success, but it does make it a recognition.
More than likely, just by looking at the image and reading the title of this news, you’ve already deduced what it’s about, and at the same time you’re wondering if it’s true or just a prank. Well, let’s be clear: Sol Reader is really an e-book reader in the style of Kindle, Kobo and similar devices, also based on an e-ink screen, but instead of a lightweight tablet format, it offers us a browser that integrates said screen. and this allows us to read in complete isolation from the outside.
Although some attendees of the CES 2023 fair were able to test the Sol Reader prototype, the truth is that its creators are not revealing almost any information about it. You can visit their website if you want, but it will only serve you to learn about the philosophy of this device, and if you get to the end, please join the waiting list if you wish to receive information in the future. This is definitely not the way to go about it.
Fortunately, among the lucky ones who got to test the Sol Reader at CES 2023 was YouTuber Brad Lynch of the channel SadlyItsBradley, who has already posted a video on his channel in which, in addition to his impressions of the device, we can also see the unit that you tested and even even how the content is displayed on the screen.
The first impression when looking at the display is, yes, somewhat disappointing, as its resolution seems to be quite low even for a reading device. However, its creators remember that what is being shown at the moment is a prototype and that the version that will reach the market (if it finally reaches) will have a screen with a higher resolution. Obviously, we are not talking about a video viewing device, so its requirements are more modest in this regard, but it is still an aspect that should not be neglected.
There is no information about autonomy, supported formats, storage capacity, connectivity, etc., but it has been reported that its price will be around $350, which at least initially seems rather expensive. However, if it can provide a comfortable and enjoyable reading experience in a state-of-the-art format, it can undoubtedly have a market. And no matter what happens, the desire to innovate cannot be denied to anyone.
