Microsoft took an unexpected step – it implemented a full-fledged new function for the Windows 7 operating system, which quite surprised users. We are talking about the UEFI Secure Boot secure boot function that appeared with the release of Windows 8. In all fairness, we note that this innovation was implemented in the September “Tuesday Patch” package, but Microsoft itself did not mention this fact. did not go unnoticed until recently.
Secure Boot basically protects against the execution of “unauthorized” code by ensuring that a device can only be booted with software signed by the manufacturer.
As a reminder, Microsoft’s free support for Windows 7 has not been available for a long time, and paid extended support will end today, January 10, 2023, after the release of the last update. As of December 2022, Windows 7 now has 11.2% of all Microsoft desktop operating system users, according to StatCounter data.
