Microsoft is considering a $10 billion investment in OpenAI, which develops the ChatGPT chatbot based on the GPT-3 neural network. This was reported by Forbes with reference to Bloomberg and Semaphore.
Microsoft and OpenAI are said to have been discussing the deal for several months. According to documents obtained by journalists, if both parties agree, Microsoft will allocate money to OpenAI for a few years.
The partnership means that OpenAI will receive 75% of its revenue until Microsoft recovers its investment after the cash flow. Microsoft will then own 49% of OpenAI shares, 49% will go to other investors, and the remaining 2% will be pinned to OpenAI itself.
A special feature of ChatGPT, unlike other chatbots, is that it can generate answers to people’s questions with explanations and context awareness. In the future, Microsoft is expected to integrate ChatGPT into the Bing search engine to compete with Google.
