The volume of the e-commerce sector has grown by almost 100 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 700 billion TL in 2022. While the sector offers numerous opportunities for many entrepreneurs, experienced entrepreneurs have prepared an 8-item roadmap for entrepreneurs who intend to enter the e-commerce sector.
ISTANBUL (IGFA) – Member of the TOBB E-commerce Council, Ticimax E-commerce Systems Founding CEO Cenk Çiğdemli has prepared an 8-item roadmap for entrepreneurs planning to enter the e-commerce industry in 2023.
DO THE WORK YOU KNOW
Those new to the e-commerce industry can enter jobs they don’t understand by researching with the logic of “how much is selling.” While this is not a sustainable business model, it can bring more losses than profits. It should not be forgotten that every crisis period offers new opportunities. The global recession is having a negative impact on many industries, but such environments are unparalleled for entrepreneurs. I advise entrepreneurs to research the difficulties the markets are experiencing and what is needed. From this point of view, different business and business models can emerge.
DO NOT SEND CONTINUOUS NOTIFICATIONS
One of the most erroneous behaviors an e-commerce site can commit is constantly texting cell phone numbers. Even if the prospect goes shopping, he will never shop because he is not comfortable with you. A site should not text or email more than a few times a month, even to its own registered customer. Even if the customer has downloaded the site’s mobile application on their phone, sending notifications more than once or twice a week will be offensive and turn the customer away from you.
DO NOT USE A CHAOTIC INTERFACE
If the ecommerce site has a chaotic theme, popups, colorful boxes popping up everywhere, the user will leave the site without buying anything. Similarly, the fact that the site is very slow and has a long wait in every category including the payment step irritates the user. Showing the desktop site to the user who logs in to the site from mobile is also the reason to leave the site immediately. Unfortunately, such sites still exist, although they are no longer visible even on Google.
DO NOT ASK FOR UNNECESSARY INFORMATION
The longer you prolong the form and ask for unnecessary information during the shopping steps, the more you annoy the customer. An e-mail address, mobile phone, password and address details are sufficient. Unnecessary information like the TR ID number, which the user heard you about, is the reason to miss the prospect before they even sign up. In short, the steps to become a member and pay should not be extended. Some old sites require the user to re-enter the address and credit card information every time, despite being a member of the site. There is no save feature on such sites. This is an irritating situation for the e-commerce customer looking for practicalities when shopping.
BEWARE OF BAD LOAD
The higher the shipping cost and the worse the freight service, the less likely the customer is to make a second purchase from your site. Leaving the product too late is the biggest mistake. Shipment should take place on the promised day. Online shoppers also want to know exactly how much their groceries will cost them. Before completing the shopping, it is important to add the shipping costs of the shipment in addition to the price in the shopping cart to remove any uncertainty.
TAKE CARE OF THE PHOTOS
The fact that the photo of the product is too small, that it has been modified to make it irrelevant to the real product, that a better quality photo has been posted instead of the product being sold is fraudulent and alienates users from your site . Product images should be clear enough for the customer to visualize the product in their mind. Photos should be taken from different angles.
GREAT PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Product descriptions should be detailed, but the most important information should be conveyed in the first three sentences. Because most people don’t want to read long descriptions. However, a careful explanation should be prepared for detailers who want to read it. If you don’t, you will torment and miss out on the curious and research-loving customer.
UNDEFINED RETURN POLICY
The most important rule of online shopping is that the sites have a return policy. The user must be informed of the conditions under which he is entitled to return the product.
