One of the “genius” measures Elon Musk took was stop paying office rent to the owners, which was already a problem a few weeks ago, forcing employees at the social network’s San Francisco headquarters to work remotely for several days. According to reports at the time, the situation appeared to have been resolved as employees were able to return to the office to carry out their normal duties, but for what we know today, it is possible that this was just a mirage.

The building, located at 1355 Market Street, has a monthly rent of $3.2 million, and the company that owns it has reportedly sued the tech company for non-payment of rent for December and January, totaling $6.4 million.

This isn’t Twitter’s first hiring problem since Elon Musk took over. Earlier this month, the owner of the Hartford Twitter Building at 650 California Street sued the company for $136,260 for the same reason, non-payment of rent. Adding this to the auction we talked about yesterday has a terribly damaging effect on Twitter’s image, acting as a deterrent to advertisers whose economic dependence is crucial to clearing their accounts. There is little or no benefit in reducing operating costs if essential elements are removed along the way to continue normal operations and therefore generate income.
