Wu Yanhua, Deputy Chief of Staff of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), announced that in the next few years, the agency will launch a project to neutralize asteroids that pose a threat to Earth.
“By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), or in 2025-2026, we will begin testing close-range surveillance technology for any Earth-threatening asteroids. With their help, we will have a collision in which this celestial body will come out of its orbit, ” said Wu Yanhua.
According to the CNSA vice president, China will create an effective system of ground and space bases that will foretell objects that pose a threat to our planet. At the same time, Chinese experts plan to develop technologies that can prevent such celestial bodies from approaching.
“In this way, China will again make its contribution. As a result, humanity will truly counter the threat posed by asteroids to Earth,” he said.
