Archives containing the project codes of the Russian Yandex appeared on the Internet. The only date for all files and folders is “2022-02-24”, which coincides with the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Khabr IT news portal.
The total volume of published archives (.tar.bz2) is more than 44.7 GB. Hackers claim that they managed to gain access to the source code of Yandex projects, outside the anti-spam rules. According to data thieves, this happened in July 2022. The publication says the archives include materials in Python, C++, Go, and TypeScript, as well as methods for working with data Protocol Buffers, YAML, and JSON.
The following characteristic features of the information in the archives are indicated separately – in Python 2.7 a large number of auxiliary codes and a single date of all files and folders – “2022-02-24”.
Yandex representatives admitted the authenticity of the published materials, but stated that there was no hacking: “The security service discovered code fragments from the internal repository, which is in the public domain. However, their content is different from the current version of the information repository used in Yandex services.”
As you know, since the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, Yandex’s search, news and other services have been actively broadcasting Russian propaganda and withholding real sources of information from users.
The European Union included Arkady Volozh, co-founder of Yandex, who left the company immediately, in its sixth package of sanctions. Some senior executives, who stated that they did not agree with the company’s policy and opposed the war in Ukraine, also left Yandex.
