Ryzen 7000 processors are represented a major leap compared to the previous generation, both in terms of IPC and the platform on which they are integrated. However, this latest improvement has also become a major problem, as access to this new platform requires the purchase of a new motherboard and the purchase of a DDR5 memory kit.

If we put the two keys together, it is clear that in order to fit a Ryzen 7000 processor, we need to make a significant investment, which is not within the reach of many users, especially in the current economic situation. To improve this reality and democratize access to the AM5 platform, AMD is preparing the launch of the platform chipset A620a solution that will enable the arrival motherboards with a starting price of approx. 100 euros approximately.

The fact is that thanks to new information, we managed to find out that AMD has an ace up its sleeve, a secret weapon with which it hopes to further strengthen its AM5 platform and Ryzen 7000. I’m talking about a version of the A620 chipset that would use the Promontory 22 module and further reduce the price sales of these new motherboards. If confirmed, it would be fantastic because we don’t need a motherboard with a complex design or a particularly expensive VRM to mount a Ryzen 5 7600X or even a Ryzen 7 7700X.

The release date of the first A620 chipset motherboards has yet to be confirmed, but they have appeared on various EEC sheets, so we know they exist and that their arrival is only a matter of time. It will be interesting to see what the main motherboard manufacturers will offer us and also what prices they will end up with. I personally believe that an A620 motherboard with a price between 90 and 100 euros would be a real piece of cake for mounting a Ryzen 5 7600, and that it would ultimately play a vital role in improving Ryzen 7000 sales in general.

I remind you that the A620 motherboards will have a more limited set of specifications than the B650, and that their level of benefits will also be lower. Don’t expect PCIe Gen5 connectivity and don’t expect CPU overclocking support either. However, yes it should be possible to overclock the memoryOtherwise, it would be shooting yourself in the foot, especially considering the impact of RAM speed on Ryzen 7000 processors.
