AMD has announced the availability and pricing of the Ryzen 7000X3D, a desktop variant of the Ryzen 7000 processor that features “3D Vertical Cache” technology as a novelty that the manufacturer believes will beat Intel’s Raptor Lake.
If you follow us regularly, you already know them. AMD announced the development of a “secret” weapon against its counterparts Intel, consisting in the use of 3D stacked level three cache which allows keeping the same socket as the standard models and all the advantages of its technology, in this case derived from the ZEN4 microarchitecture, but with important performance advantages, especially in the highly valued segment of video game execution.
Finally, three models with this technology were introduced at CES, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 8 cores and 16 threads, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D with 12 cores and 24 threads, and the top-of-the-line Ryzen 9 7950X3D with 16 cores and 32 threads, which AMD bills as the fastest gaming CPU on the planet . All three work at high frequencies with cap above 5 GHz (5.0, 5.6 and 5.7 GHz respectively) and like all “X” models. have an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking. The trio has a TDP consumption of 120 watts and a total buffer memory of 104, 140 and 144 Mbytes.
Neither availability nor price was announced in its CES presentation, and AMD is now doing so in a YouTube presentation. The series will premiere on the retail channel from February 28 with two top models, while the third will arrive from April 6 with the following prices:
The first two are priced slightly higher ($50) than their 7000X-series counterparts at launch, while the top-of-the-line version is the same as the Ryzen 9 7950X. And we are talking about launching because currently and after several months on the market, A 7000X without 3D memory can be found for less. And with some sellers, such as PcComponentes, with attractive offers, certainly even before the launch of new models.
Note that the new Ryzen “3D” will be compatible with the existing motherboards they use socket AM5. Some of them will need a BIOS/UEFI update, which manufacturers like GIGABYTE or ASUS will surely provide. Also, the USB BIOS Flashback feature is standardized by AMD across all brands of motherboards running on their platform, so upgrading your CPU shouldn’t be a problem.
Another thing is that it is interesting if you have the last generation version. It’s up to you, but it’s clear that AMD is finishing up a very good series of desktop processors.
