Android 14 available in Google Developer Edition

Google has made the first version of the Android 14 operating system available to developers, and in the coming months it will allow both them and the public to run a series of tests to fine-tune what will be in their hands around the world. It is worth remembering that the 13th version of the system has been with us for half a year and the new one may take some time to reach everyone.

According to the schedule released by the company, they expect the OS to reach stability only in June 2023. And according to them, the official launch will not take place until August if everything works as they predicted. They will be releasing a developer preview between this month and March, with beta releases planned for April and May to test how it will perform with the general population and across devices.

So far, the mobile phone models that will receive the operating system natively have not been announced, but it is correct to say that the latest versions of the Pixel should be the focus of Google. The partnership between them and Samsung is also strong, but it’s too early to talk about the apps that will be present on their smartphones and tablets in the future.

How to Install Android 14 on Your Mobile Phone Right Now

If you want to install Android 14 on your device and test it out, it’s possible and we’ll give you the necessary steps here to get it in the palm of your hand. It is worth remembering that the system is still unstable, which may be a number of problems and errors, for the operation of which neither Google nor we are responsible. To use it, you will first need one of the following mobile phone models:

  • Google Pixel 7
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro
  • Google Pixel 6A
  • Google Pixel 6 Pro
  • Google Pixel 6
  • Google Pixel 5A
  • Google Pixel 5
  • Google Pixel 4A 5G

There are two installation methods: manual and assisted. The former is only recommended for users with advanced software knowledge and is not available to the general public. The second one is simple and can be done by anyone with minimal knowledge of the platforms.

First, you will need to use the latest version of Google Chrome on your computer, which can be downloaded from this link. Your PC must also have all Pixel line drivers installed. It is worth noting that the procedure will erase all previous information that existed on your smartphone, so first of all, do not forget to make a backup copy and save the files on disk. It’s like resetting a cell phone, so keep an eye on this information. Now do the following:

  • Use USB cable to connect mobile phone to computer;
  • In your smartphone settings, go to “Settings” and then click on “Developer Options”. If this option is not available, simply go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information and click the Build Number option seven times. This will open what you are looking for;
  • In developer options, enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging;
  • Log in to the official Google page on your PC to download the Android 14 operating system;
  • Select the option in your device settings. Some of them allow only the 64-bit version to work, others also have a 32-bit version;
  • Follow the instructions on the website to complete a secure installation on your device, and remember that you can only touch your smartphone when it indicates that you can.
