On Thursday, Microsoft cut jobs (number) on Surface devices, HoloLens mixed reality hardware and Xbox units as part of the 10,000 layoffs announced last month.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Bloomberg.

Personnel cuts at HoloLens call into question the implementation of third-generation glasses beyond the version planned for the US military.

According to the report, there were layoffs in the Xbox game industry in the marketing department and The Xbox Ecosystem group.

On Thursday, Xbox employees received an email from Microsoft Gaming chief Phil Spencer informing them of the layoffs. The reason for the decision was not specified.

The total number of employees laid off at Microsoft is 617.

Last month, the company announced that it plans to cut 10,000 jobs in the current quarter, about 5% of the company’s total workforce.

The share of Microsoft’s last quarter profit for the personnel change application reached 800 million US dollars.

Last month, layoffs affected Microsoft’s Halo video game studio and other employees in the mixed reality group.

The team that developed glasses for the US Army HoloLens was no exception. After Congress last month rejected the Army’s request for $400 million to purchase 6,900 combat goggles this fiscal year, Microsoft won’t be taking orders for the devices anytime soon.

In addition, on Thursday Yahoo announced the planned layoff of 20% of its staff in connection with the restructuring of its advertising technology division, Reuters reported.

As reported by Ukrinform, large technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, DELL, HP, Zoom announced that they will reduce thousands of their employees.
