Shoe giant Nike has patented shoes registered as tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum blockchain.
In a patent application published Dec. 10, Nike said it plans to create ERC 721 tokens in addition to creating unique identifiers for some shoes. These sneakers are called CryptoKicks.
The digital shoes can now be purchased in cryptocurrency and feature a changing Skin Vial NFT style for customization. Nike’s “token” sneakers are inspired by the Nike Dunk, which was first introduced as a custom basketball shoe in the 1980s and later became the main choice for skateboarders as sneakers.
At the time of writing, the minimum price for “tokenized” shoes was 1.6 ETH (about $4,500) on OpenSea. At the same time, the company set a price of 200 ETH for some copies (not much, not less – more than half a million US dollars).
