The company “Kyivstar” attaches great importance to cybersecurity and the protection of its subscribers from cyber threats. Its experts participated in testing the financial anti-phishing system used by cybercriminals to embezzle and collect personal data.

The press service of the company informed Ukrinform about this.

“Kyivstar systematically supports the state and subscribers by providing communication during the war, investing in the development of the telecom market, participating in the digital development of the country, as well as supporting the direction of combating cyber fraud. We understand that one of the components of strong cyber defense of Ukraine is the efficient interaction between business and government. Kyivstar regulatory support director Oleksandr Kogut, who has developed significant expertise in cybersecurity, immediately joined the NCCC and National Bank of Ukraine project to create a system to limit malicious domains.

He believes that financial fraud is one of the manifestations of hybrid warfare, so only by joining forces will we be able to effectively protect Ukrainians.

The National Cyber Security Coordination Center (NCCC) within the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, together with the National Bank of Ukraine, launched a project to combat cyber fraud in the financial sector. Kyivstar became the first major provider to actively participate in the project.

The main goal of the project is to strengthen the protection of citizens from cybercriminals, who intensified their activities during the period of martial law in Ukraine. Criminals run phishing campaigns with the aim of obtaining data to gain access to bank accounts in order to steal funds, and they also organize fake fundraising events to provide aid to the Armed Forces.

In 2022, the NBU detected around 4,500 phishing sources for comparison, in 2021 the number was much lower.

Last fall, the NCCC formed a working group that included representatives of government agencies and providers with the largest infrastructure. The financial anti-phishing system has been successfully tested.

Kyivstar is Ukraine’s largest electronic communications operator, serving 24.4 million mobile subscribers and more than 1.1 million “Home Internet” subscribers as of June 2022. The company offers a wide range of mobile and fixed technologies-based services, including 4G.
