MediaTek Dimensity 7200, the new mid-range SoC in 4 nm

The MediaTek Dimensity 7200 is a new mid-range SoC that uses 4nm 2nd generation node from TSMC, the same one we saw in its older brother, the MediaTek Dimensity 9200, and has support for the 5G standardsomething that is essential today for any chip that strives to be competitive in the mid-range, one of the busiest and most complicated.

The Taiwanese company has taken maximum care of the MediaTek Dimensity 7200’s feature set, which can be seen on the optimizations it brings focused on games as well as its high energy efficiencysomething that should improve the battery life of those smartphones that use it.

In terms of specifications, the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 has a 8-core CPU divided into two blocks, one with two high-performance Cortex-A715 cores running at 2.8 GHz and the other with six high-performance Cortex-A510 cores. Your GPU is a ARM Mali-G610 MC4 and comes with technologies Hyper Engine 5.0 focused on playing games.

Your 5G modem can reach download speed up to 4.7 Gbps and supports dual SIM 5G. It is compatible with Wi-Fi 6E networks (it has a 2×2 configuration and can work in the 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands). Its range of wireless connectivity options is complemented by Bluetooth 5.3 support.

If we look at the screen options, we can see that this chip can work without problems FullHD+ panels at 144 Hzand is compatible with HDR10+, CUVA HDR and Dolby HDR standards. MediaTek Dimensity 7200 uses Imagiq 765 and 14-bit HDR ISP, supports cameras with a resolution of up to 200 MP. It can shoot 4K video with HDR and supports dual 1080p video recording with autofocus. To offer a good result in low light conditions, this chip uses motion compensation technology.

MediaTek has not forgotten about artificial intelligence either. This SoC has s processing unit for AI which improves aspects as important as power consumption and offers important improvements aimed at computer photography. In games, it uses the aforementioned HyperEngine 5.0 VRS (variable rate shader) supported by artificial intelligence to reduce battery consumption and improve performance.

The MediaTek Dimensity 7200 supports RAM with a maximum speed of 6.4 GHz and is compatible with UFS 3.1 storage solutions. It is expected that the first terminals based on this chip will start to hit the market before the end of the first quarter of this year, although we still do not have an exact date. It will most likely be integrated into models with an approximate price between 300 and 400 euros.
