According to Ukrinform’s correspondent in The Hague, Russia was not invited by the organizers – the Netherlands and South Korea – because of the war in Ukraine.

“This is an idea whose time has come. We are taking the first step to formulate and work on what would be the responsible use of AI in the military,” said Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra.

He also emphasized the need to work with international partners on the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

It is worth noting that on February 15 and 16, the Dutch government held REAIM 2023, the first global summit on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the military field.

The event provided a discussion about the key opportunities, challenges and risks associated with the military use of AI.

Particularly, foreign ministers and representatives of think tanks, institutes and non-governmental organizations were among the participants.

The summit called for joint action on the responsible development, implementation and use of artificial intelligence in the military.

The event also discussed how AI can be safely used to accelerate decision making in a military context.

Around 2,000 participants from all over the world gathered at the event: representatives of the country, business, scientists and experts from analytical centers.

Summit participants emphasized that the issue of responsible use of artificial intelligence should be brought to a more important place in the political agenda and initiatives that will contribute to this should be encouraged more.

“Artificial intelligence is of great importance for the armed forces of the future. By using artificial intelligence in accordance with the rules, we make our operational and logistics processes simpler and more efficient. In addition, artificial intelligence enables us to make faster and more informed decisions… Making sure we use AI responsibly For this, we will continue to work closely with partners in existing alliances such as the EU and NATO, as well as with other countries. Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said “government organisations, think tanks, educational and information institutions and the business community”.

Like the Netherlands, South Korea actively encourages countries to discuss the responsible use of AI in the military.

The program was full of masterclasses and innovations at the summit where experts in the field spoke.
