A recent article suggested a totally crazy idea. What if aliens create black holes to use as quantum storage? It sounds crazy, but some scientists say it could give us a solution to the Fermi Paradox; this is basically if life is common in our universe, why haven’t we found evidence for it outside of Earth?
This paradox has caused great excitement in the scientific community, especially among those who believe that extraterrestrial life exists somewhere and is waiting to be discovered. The new paper has yet to be peer-reviewed, but it was produced by a team of German and Georgian scientists who say we may be looking in the wrong direction in our search for alien life.
We now rely on radio signals to look for signs of life in the universe. But instead, these researchers suggest that we should approach black holes as if alien civilizations had created them as giant quantum computers to store data. Therefore, we must look for techno-signatures originating from megastructures such as pulsars, white dwarf stars, and black holes.
The original concept that black holes could act as sources of unlimited energy dates back to the 1980s, when astrophysicist Roger Penrose first proposed it. While it seems unlikely, the researchers actually agree that tiny, artificially created black holes could act as capacitors for quantum information. So why can’t black holes created by aliens do the same?
According to the same researchers, all we have to do is find evidence of technosignatures in the black hole to confirm the possibility of this theory. What’s more, we already have the technology to do so, as researchers claim the IceCube neutrino observatory in Antarctica can detect technosignatures in black holes, which could prove that aliens created them and used them to store data.
Of course, this is just one of the potential directions we can follow in our search for extraterrestrial life. While it may seem crazy that aliens can create black holes and store quantum data inside them, this is something that astronomers and astrophysicists can explore, at least. And if it fails, scientists will undoubtedly find a new direction.
