Garage Band co-creator leaves Apple

According to 9to5Mac, Xander Soren, a former head of product and marketing at Apple who has worked on projects such as GarageBand, Logic, iTunes and the iPod, recently left the company. Soren joined Apple in 2001 and is credited as one of the co-creators of GarageBand.

Xander Soren has worked for the Cupertino-based company for 21 years in various roles, most recently as director of product marketing for Pro Apps. Prior to joining Apple, he worked as a product manager at Sonic Foundry. In November 2022, he decided to leave the company, according to 9to5Mac, obtained through the former executive’s Linkedin.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he is one of the creators of GarageBand, the music production app that Apple officially launched in 2004. At the time, Soren was a product manager and part of the GarageBand and iPod teams.

Promotions and important positions in the company from Cupertino

The former Apple executive was promoted to senior product line manager for consumer audio applications shortly after GarageBand’s initial launch. In addition to working on the app and iPod, Soren has also collaborated on other iLife apps, iTunes, Logic Pro, voice memos, and more. He also helped create some of the first ringtones for the original iPhone.

According to 9to5Mac, Xander Soren has performed at several Apple events over the years. He has made several appearances with Steve Jobs to showcase the power of GarageBand, including the 2010 Back to Mac event and the 2011 presentation of GarageBand for iPad on the iPad 2.

In recent years, Xander Soren has become a proponent of the Apple Pro Apps software category. The Pro Apps package includes applications such as Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage. In an interview last year, he announced that Mac Studio and Studio Display were created based on feedback from Pro users.

Xander Soren helped Apple build relationships with artists and musicians through his work on apps like GarageBand and Logic Pro, as well as the early days of iTunes and the iPod. The “farewell” video, filmed by some of his colleagues at Apple, included messages of support from various artists and producers.
