YouTube channel PBKReviews conducted a series of drop tests of devices included in the Galaxy S23 line.. Theoretically, the device was presented by the manufacturer as the most resistant device ever created by Samsung.

The fame of sustainable devices came thanks to the first-class material used by Samsung. In addition, all three models feature an outer shell covered in an Armor aluminum frame, as well as IP ratings for water and dust resistance and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on both the back and front.

However, in practice, the result presented by the PBKReviews channel was very different from Samsung’s expectations. While the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s curved screen was previously thought to break the phone when dropped, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s flat screen wasn’t proven to be more durable either.

The creator of the channel simulated four different falls

During testing, the creator of the channel caused a fall from the height of the belt to test the stability of the device. Unfortunately, even with the latest and most durable hardware technology, the Galaxy S23 Ultra didn’t survive the drop test.

Soon after the first fall to the ground, the edges of the screen were already covered with cracks. The second test resulted in the device falling partly to the ground, where large drop marks were also visible.

Drop testing revealed damage to the front and back glass panels of the Galaxy S23+, including dents, cracks, and scratches. In addition, the fall caused severe damage to the phone’s aluminum frame. Thankfully, the device had no software issues and continued to respond to touch input.

This means that all users who are going to purchase the Galaxy S23 should be prepared to invest in a quality case. Of course, not all drops cause the same problems for devices, but it’s important to protect them given the fragility they can present if dropped into a position that would make them more vulnerable.
