The James Webb Space Telescope has helped astronomers discover six massive galaxies that emerged about 600 million years after the Big Bang that created the universe.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Sky News.
The Big Bang is a physical-cosmological theory about the first stage of the evolution of the universe from an extremely dense and hot state that existed about 13.8 billion years ago.
“While most galaxies in this era are still small and only expanding gradually over time, there are a few rapidly expanding ‘monsters’. “We were stunned by this discovery,” said researcher Ivo Labbe of Australia’s Swinburne University of Technology.
According to astronomers, these six galaxies are billions of times heavier than the Sun. However, they are believed to be extremely compact, containing as many stars as our own Milky Way galaxy.
It is stated that the James Webb telescope, unlike its predecessor Hubble, is larger and more powerful and has wider capabilities.
It can also see behind dust clouds with an infrared camera and find previously undiscovered galaxies.
Scientists hope to finally discover the first galaxies and stars that formed after the creation of the universe 13.8 billion years ago.
As reported by Ukrinform, the most powerful James Webb telescope worth $10 billion was launched into space at the end of December 2021. The observatory’s main goals include the study of the first exoplanets, protostars.
