Fiber-ready was able to win a fifth telecommunications operator for its fiber optic network. Mobile Vikings will use the network to offer fiber internet to its own customers.
Four telecommunications providers are already using Fiberklaar’s fiber optic infrastructure: Proximus, Multifiber, edpnet and RapidXS. Starting today, Mobile Vikings will also be added. Fiberklaar announces the collaboration with a press release. Mobile Vikings customers can therefore take out a fiber subscription when the Fiber Ready network is available.
Fiberklaar is a network manager that provides installation and maintenance of the fiber optic infrastructure, but does not go directly to the consumer or business market. The company is opening up its networks to telecom operators to offer fiber optic services to their customers. The cooperation with a fifth provider should offer Internet customers more freedom of choice.
The cooperation is also interesting for Mobile Vikings. The telecom company is yet another new player in the fixed-line internet market. Mobile Vikings can offer fixed internet services through parent company Proximus’ network, but is now finding an additional way to bring fiber to customers. “At Mobile Vikings we believe strongly in fiber optic technology,” says Managing Director David Van Eynde.
1.5 million connections by 2028
Fiberready was founded in 2021 as a joint venture between Proximus and the Swedish investment fund EQT. The utility is rolling out an open fiber optic network to speed up fiber optic deployment in Flanders. Fiber ready has clear ambitions: with an investment of 2.5 billion euros, it wants to provide 1.5 million Flemish households and companies with a fiber optic connection by 2028.
Rik Missault, CEO of Fiberklaar, states: “Of course, our strategy only has value if telecom players actually find their way to our network. The more providers do this, the more choice and digital freedom consumers and companies will have. With Mobile Vikings, we welcome a unique piece of telecom DNA to our network.”
