Recently, rumors have surfaced that Intel and Microsoft are preparing to release Windows 12, which has yet to be officially announced. @leaf_hobby, a well-known hardware leaker who previously leaked specifications for Intel Xeon chips, provided information about Intel’s Meteor Lake desktop platform, which is expected to support Windows 12. However, Intel and Microsoft declined to comment on the rumors.

While Microsoft hasn’t announced any plans for Windows 12, there are signs that the company wants to include AI features in future versions of Windows. Yusuf Mehdi, head of consumer marketing at Microsoft, recently commented on the potential of artificial intelligence in Windows. Mehdi talked about the latest Windows 11 update, which includes artificial intelligence-supported features such as Bing integration and content recommended for business users. Microsoft is also reportedly working on AI-powered smart touch features for Windows 11.

If Microsoft plans to use AI more widely in the next version of Windows, it will need to work closely with hardware partners like Intel and AMD to optimize chips that can handle AI workloads. AMD recently released its Ryzen 7000 mobile processors, the first x86 chips to include a custom AI engine capable of supporting Microsoft’s Windows Studio Effects. Similarly, Intel’s Meteor Lake is expected to have artificial intelligence capabilities similar to what AMD offers in its Ryzen 7000 mobile processors.

Both AMD and Intel are trying to catch up with Apple and their latest M2 chips, which have a custom AI chip capable of processing 15.8 trillion operations per second. Microsoft has reportedly been returning to a three-year Windows release cycle, which means the next major version of Windows could arrive in 2024.

Microsoft has also begun to focus on updating Windows 11 more frequently than the initial annual updates promised when the operating system was released in 2021. The latest update includes AI-powered Bing integration, improved widgets, touch mode, screen recording, and more.
