It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the Masters Reykjavik 2022 is one of the most surprising VALORANT tournaments we’ve ever seen.

While giants like EMEA’s Fnatic and LATAM’s KRU Esports didn’t even cross the starting line, Masters Stage 1 was a surprise team tournament. There is much to be said for the process that led OpTiC Gaming to victory with an unexpected twist.

Return of the Kings: OpTic takes the trophy back to North America

Masters Reykjavik is remembered with surprises from the first moment. While Fnatic and KRU Esports scored 2-0 before reaching the playoffs, South East Asia Brazil’s LOUD and Paper Rex were able to steal the spotlight from the veteran teams.

Paper Rex, where Jason ‘f0rsakeN’ Susanto made a mess by using the redesigned Yoru for the first time, was one of the teams that showed their best in the tournament. The audience, who had previously witnessed the bumpy performance of the Japanese Duelist, adored the Indonesian actor.

The Asia-Pacific representative at the top of the ranking accompanied his comrade in the Japanese team ZETA DIVISION. Despite beating EMEA’s Team Liquid, Korea’s DRX and Paper Rex en route to the semifinals, they couldn’t resist the might of OpTiC Gaming. But VCT followers around the world won’t soon forget the impact Shota ‘SugarZ3ro’ Watanabe and Tenta ‘TENNN’ Asai had on Masters Reykjavik 2022.

Another name that followed in the footsteps of this surprise team from Doğu was LOUD and the team lived up to its name with its powerful voice. While Team Liquid crushed G2 Esports and OpTiC to blow the minds of the crowd, Erick “aspas” Santos led the way, helping his team get out of the top group and reach the finals. There awaited them a battle that they had to wage again against OpTiC, again the giants of VALORANT clashed.

Unfortunately, this time it didn’t go as the team had hoped. He failed to get a game from North America’s leading team, all rounds on all maps kept going back and forth, but they all ended in OpTiC wins. Jimmy ‘stunned’ Nguyen in battles in Ascent, Bind and Breeze; Brimstone used Chamber and Omen very well to give his team a clear win.

With this win, OpTiC has won the Masters Reykjavik trophy and the VCT will be the target of everyone in phase 2. Will he also be able to win the Masters 2 trophy? Or are we listening to a revenge story from Paper Rex, LOUD and ZETA DIVISION? Time will tell.
