Kura Sushi, the Japanese operator of conveyor chain restaurants, has developed an artificial intelligence-based notification system to prevent customers from spoiling their plates. This was reported by NHK,

The system is said to have been developed after videos of restaurants holding unhealthy food draws at conveyor belt restaurants recently went viral on social media.
“We find these videos extremely disturbing and threaten the very foundation of the sushi conveyor belt business model. We hope that implementing the notification system will help our customers feel safe while dining at our restaurants,” said Okamoto Hiroyuki of Kura Sushi.
As soon as the system’s camera detects that someone has returned a customer-touched plate to the conveyor, an alert is sent to the chain’s headquarters. After that, the head office will contact the administrator, who will approach the intruder.
The company plans to deploy such a system, a first in the industry, in all its restaurants.
