Nokia demonstrates 6G Detection technology

At the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona recently, telecommunications companies showcased their latest technologies and innovations that will shape the future of telecommunications. One of the most important innovations is the next generation mobile networks, 6G. It promises to fundamentally change the way we interact with the digital world. At MWC 2023, Nokia demonstrated how sensor technology will be used in 6G.

Nokia demonstrated the potential of the 6G to “feel” the human body. The mobile antenna of the sixth generation will be able to detect people, objects or animals with the help of radio waves. In a demo, which you can watch below, Nokia introduced a digital piano that uses 6G sensing to detect a person’s position and adjust the volume accordingly. As you can see, technology manages to find a woman in the video without using a camera or lens.

A second demonstration showed how 6G sensing technology can be used to ensure pedestrian safety. A vehicle equipped with 6G sensor technology can detect a pedestrian nearby and is not allowed to move until the pedestrian is out of range. Both of these examples highlight the potential future applications of 6G sensing technology and the opportunities that will open up for the telecommunications industry. Both examples run at 27 GHz. Given the frequencies available, this is an incredibly high value.

Nokia is also bringing 6G to the moon by building the first mobile phone network on the lunar surface. This network will provide communication and data transmission in remote and technically difficult locations on Earth such as mines, oil rigs and wind farms.
