An international team of archaeologists from ScanPyramids has discovered a new previously unknown chamber in the Pyramid of Cheops at Giza. This was reported by the press service of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
The assumption of the existence of this field arose during various measurements made by Japanese and French experts in 2016. The uniqueness of this find is that the Pyramid of Cheops is considered one of the most studied structures in the world. It has the status of the largest and oldest pyramid in Giza.
The scientists now decided to investigate the gaps next to the strip blocks above the original entrance to the pyramid, which is now closed to the public. Ultrasound and endoscopy technologies were used for this. These methods allow you to see the inside of stone materials without damaging them. This is especially important because the Pyramids of Cheops are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Using the hole between the stones, the experts managed to pass the pipe into the chamber. They then used this as a guide for the lens of an endoscopic camera, confirming the existence of empty space.
Moreover, the discovered room turned out to be much larger than expected. Initial measurement data showed the presence of a corridor at least five meters long, but the results are even larger. Additionally, there were no signs of human activity inside the chamber, so researchers believe no human feet have set foot in the chamber for about 4,500 years. Additional work is now planned to reveal the purpose of the camera and what lies behind its far wall. Source
