Honors paid to Hugo Chavez 10 years after his death

This Sunday, the ruling party of Venezuela paid tribute to the memory of President Hugo Chávez (1999-2013), the day when 10 years after his deathHappy the day he spoke at the barracks from which he led the 1992 coup against then President Carlos Andrés Pérez.

“We made a huge commitment 10 years after the physical departure of our commander (to continue) to strengthen popular unity, the vanguard revolution in venezuela and not only because it is an international project,” said the Venezuelan Ambassador to Cuba, Adan Chavez, brother of the late president.

In the Cuartel de la Montaña, a former military museum, renamed Cuatro de Febrero in honor of the 1992 date when Hugo Chávez was in charge of coupmembers of the government and supporters of the man who until 2013 decided the fate of Venezuela remembered his legacy.

The event was attended by invited presidents and former presidents of the region Luis Arce, Daniel OrtegaRafael Correa, Manuel Celaya and Evo Morales.

Likewise, thousands of Chavismos went to Cuartell de la Montaña to pay tribute to the President.

Francisco Morillo of Sucre State (East) said EFE that Chávez “woke up the Venezuelan people” while reaffirming his support for President Nicolás Maduro.

“Today I came here to honor the memory of our eternal commander, Hugo Rafael Chávez Frias, the man who woke up Venezuelan peoplea man who told people that there is love here,” he said.

For her part, Maria Eugenia Barrios, 61, told EFE that the absence of a president strengthens the ruling party to “continue to work on the legacy he left us.”

He claimed that these past 10 years have been a “very tough battle” for Nicholas Madurobut “he overcame all odds to benefit us, to continue with the legacy and responsibility that Commander Chávez left him.”

He United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) launched actions on Friday to mark the 10th anniversary of the former president’s death.

Hugo Chavez died on March 5, 2013 at the age of 58, having become a victim of cancerand is considered one of the most important and controversial figures of the turn of the century in Latin America.
