Living in a penthouse worth 2.5 billion Colombian pesos (about 9 million Mexican pesos), buying expensive jewelry and withdrawing large sums of cash from the bank are some of the luxuries of Colombian MP Nicolás Petro, son of President Gustavo Petro, whom his ex-wife accuses of receiving money from a drug dealer.

This was announced on Sunday change logwhose report indicated that the president’s eldest son “leads a lifestyle that does not appear to be in line with his income as deputy to the Atlantic Assembly.

According to an investigation that released the politician’s bank statement, Nicholas Petro had expenses in December that included purchases at a jewelry store and branded clothing, aesthetic treatments, restaurants and millionaire payments in the hotels of Barranquilla, the capital of the Caribbean department of Atlantico.

“A statement from last December shows that Nicholas spent more than 40 million pesos (about $8,300) from this account and still had more than 70 million (about $14,600) on his balance sheet. It should be noted that this account did not receive rent or mortgage payments, vehicle fees or utilities, and only one purchase in a supermarket appears,” added Cambio.

He scandal jumped last Thursday when the Colombian president released a statement citing “information rumored in the public mind” about his brother Juan Fernando Petro Urrego and his eldest son, Nicolás Petro Burgos, in respect of whom he asked the country’s Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, “to conduct all necessary investigations and determine possible responsibilities.”

Petro referred to alleged meetings in prisons, where, according to some versions, people around him pretended to be members of the government in order to contact criminals and to offer them their inclusion in the “full world” program in exchange for money, a suspicion that falls on his brother, but with which his son was not connected.

However, a few hours later, Day Vasquez, ex-wife of Nicholas Petro, in an interview with the magazine A weekaccused the president’s eldest son of receiving money from a drug dealer Samuel Santander Lopesierra aka “The Marlboro Man”.For presidential campaign his father, who, however, never reached this place.

“It was never legally brought to the campaign because he (Nicholas) kept that money like the others,” said Vasquez, who assured that Lopesierra gave his son Petro “more than 600 million pesos (about $124,700 today) to his father’s campaign” and who also received 200 million pesos (about $41,500) from the businessman. Alfonso “Turkish” Hilsaka who also did not participate in the campaign.

Similarly, Semana magazine published Petro’s “conversations” with Vazquez, in which the politician talks about how he met with some members of his father’s cabinet, such as the Minister of the Interior, Alfonso Pradawho allegedly gave him “10 spots” in that portfolio to work there for relatives and friends of the president’s son.

Faced with everything that has happened these days, Petr Burgos decided this Sunday “to refrain from participating in any political activity related to the upcoming elections”, citing elections local and regional newspapers in October, in which there were rumors that he was going to run for mayor of Barranquilla.

“Equally, I give a step aside to the processes of Human Colombia, historical pact (movements that propelled Petro to the presidency) and Maximo Noriega’s campaign for governor of Atlántico until I prove my innocence,” he added.

In anticipation of publication Changethe deputy said that “the money data does not come from the mafia or corruptionnor any illegal activity.

“I will confirm this in court accordingly. I inform journalists and the media that the invasion of my home without permission and a preliminary conversation borders on harassment,” he said.

This refers to the fact that journalist Juliana Ramirez from Change, arrived at the house where the politician lives, and he was allowed to enter after he declared himself. The reporter only stayed in the house for a few minutes before leaving at the request Nicholas Petro.
