FCASC Storm

Italy, the UK and Sweden have agreed to create a next-generation Tempest fighter by the end of 2020. The name of the program by which a promising multifunctional aircraft will be created is FCASC (Future Combat Air System Cooperation).

The development of the machine should begin in 2025, before other intergovernmental agreements will be made. BAE Systems calls the Tempest a “sixth generation” fighter jet and expects it to enter service in 2035. Tempest should replace the Eurofighter Typhoon in the air forces of European countries.

The project is run by the “Team Tempest” consortium made up of BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, Leonardo and MBDA. Competition for the project is Future Combat Air System (FCAS), another European consortium that includes France, Germany and Spain developing the Next Generation Fighter Aircraft (NGF) aircraft. The model was shown for the first time at the international salon in Le Bourget in 2019. The company Dassaut, the manufacturer of Rafale fighters, and the Airbus concern are working on the program. The new car will be created by Germany and France with the participation of Spain. The new aircraft is planned to gradually replace Rafale and Eurofighter warplanes after 2040.
