ASUS has announced the two latest additions to its Chrome OS ecosystem. There are two ASUS Chromebook CM14 laptops (standard and Flip) that come in portable and convertible formats.

Chromebooks are a great alternative to what comes from Windows and macOS. These were the computers that saw the most sales growth when the restrictions due to the COVID pandemic forced the acquisition of infrastructure for remote work, online study and leisure at home, and there is a good offer for all computing tasks, including those focused on games.

ASUS Chromebook CM14 are designed for general computer use. They are powered by a processor ARM Kompanio 520 from MediaTek, which means it’s headed to the entry-level range of Chromebooks. With eight processor cores and a dual-core graphics engine, it should offer enough performance to run productivity tools, browse the Internet, and enjoy multimedia entertainment.

As is customary with the Taiwanese manufacturer, its design and finish are well taken care of. The screens have a diagonal of 14 inches and the portable model can be opened up to 180 degrees. The “Flip” convertible model adds a multi-touch panelhinges to tilt the screen up to 360 degrees and a stylus for drawing and taking notes that can be conveniently stored in the same convertible body.

It can be said that the chassis of these laptops meet the standard MIL-STD 810H resistance military grade and ASUS subjects them to pressure, shock and drop tests. The keyboard has a spill-resistant construction, and the touchpad and palm surfaces have an antimicrobial treatment. For increased privacy, they have a built-in physical shutter that quickly covers the webcam when not in use.

They support Wi-Fi 6 for wireless internet connection and include access menu free for one year to the Google One cloud storage service. Pre-install the latest version of Chrome OS, a system that continues to excel in its simplicity, ease of use, management or security, but which in recent years has added a new hardware-accelerated graphics environment for the name “Aura”, which includes components used in other systems such as Windows or macOS.

In terms of apps, it includes Chrome OS apps, Android for Google Play support, the Linux ones and even the games with the progress brought by the arrival of the Steam platform. No pricing has been provided for these ASUS Chromebook CM14s, but they should be pretty cheap.
