SpaceX plans to begin testing its Starlink satellite communications service with mobile operator T-Mobile this year. This was reported by the space company. According to Jonathan Hofeller, SpaceX’s vice president of corporate sales at Starlink, the company already has more than 1 million Starlink users.
As stated, this will provide 5G Internet coverage across the US, which will eliminate the “dead zones” problem. The declared speed is at the level of 2-4 Mbps in the “cell”.
However, it is not only SpaceX and T-Mobile that prepared such a project. In 2021, Amazon and Verizon announced a similar collaboration using Project Kuiper satellites. But so far, Amazon hasn’t launched any satellites, the first two will enter orbit this year, and the system’s public launch is expected in 2024. A similar initiative is being developed on a global scale by AST SpaceMobile. The first satellite of this system has already been placed in orbit.
