Sony’s latest E-mount lens to add to the mirrorless G Master lens lineup FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM IIstands out for its many different features, such as optical design, unique actuator technologies and advanced autofocus.
Sony has unveiled the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II, the 67th lens in the highly anticipated E-mount mirrorless series. The latest in the series, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II (model – SEL2470GM2) has enhanced the lens technology of Sony’s “G Master” series and combines the stunning resolution and bokeh features, now with the world’s lightest F2. 8 standard zoom. One of the versatile lenses, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II; It offers high performance for photographers, videographers and mixed content creators.
It’s been six years since Sony launched the first 24-70mm F2.8 G Master, but customer needs have changed in that time. Yann Salmon Legagneur, Director of Product Marketing and Digital Imaging, Sony Europe “We always listen to our consumers around the world and listen to their feedback. In this context, we have developed the new FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II. Given the popular 24-70mm focal length, we wanted to add our most advanced technology to these key lens features in our customers’ kits. “Today we are excited to introduce the world’s smallest and lightest F2.8 standard zoom lens.”
New zoom with advanced technology for rival primes
The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II offers a compact and versatile setup, allowing users to capture sharp and detailed images for both stills and video. The new lens maintains high frame-by-frame resolution even when the aperture is at its maximum. The completely redesigned lens features five aspherical lens elements, including two high-precision XA (extreme aspherical) elements. In addition to two EDs (extra low dispersion), the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II also has two Super ED glasses. Combined with a new sliding focus mechanism, the lens effectively controls chromatic aberration, astigmatism, distortion and coma. Thus, the image is displayed at all zoom and aperture settings. reach extraordinary everywhere It gives a picture.
Even when shooting in difficult lighting conditions, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II effectively reduces flare and ghosting, providing excellent clarity. This clarity is achieved thanks to Sony’s original Nano AR Coating II, which produces a uniform anti-reflective coating on the lens surface. FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II, mIts maximum aperture and newly developed 11-blade circular diaphragm allow it to achieve smooth and excellent bokeh effect.
The new 24-70mm design lens offers exceptional close-up performance with a minimum focusing distance of 8.25 inches (0.21 meters) at 24 mm and 12 inches (0.30 meters) at 70 mm and a maximum magnification of 0.32 .
Fast and accurate autofocus
The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II uses Sony’s four original XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors when shooting a very fast-moving subject. The lens provides reliable focusing using a sliding focusing mechanism and advanced lens control. In addition, the lens supports up to 30 fps continuous shooting for photos and 4K 120p video recording with autofocus.
The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II offers full AF tracking performance even when shooting with the aperture closed, making it possible to keep moving subjects in focus in deep depth of field when shooting continuously. The AF tracking performance of the lens while zooming is about twice as good as the previous model.
Advanced creative filmmaking capabilities
With its constant F2.8 maximum aperture, stunning AF performance, versatile operation and rock-solid reliability, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II offers outstanding performance for any video application. The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II offers extremely quiet AF operation thanks to XD linear motors and a newly developed diaphragm unit. Using the latest lens technology, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II reduces focus breathing, focus shift and axis shift while zooming for smooth video shooting. This lens also supports smoothing of focus transitions available on compatible Alpha series cameras.
The lens provides an added advantage for advanced video shooting and responds instantly and repeatedly to fine adjustments with the focus ring, resulting in high repeatability performance in manual focus. It also includes an aperture ring that makes manual aperture/iris control quick, direct and easy. Dedicated aperture ring provides clickless control for smooth depth-of-field transitions.
Unparalleled Mobility
Designed to pair perfectly with Sony’s compact Alpha™ E-mount mirrorless cameras, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II stands out as the world’s smallest and lightest 24-70mm F2.8 zoom lens in its class. It offers unparalleled shooting flexibility and freedom in different situations and angles. About 20mm lighter than the original 24-70mm F2.8 G Master, the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II weighs just 695 grams. The length of the lens has been shortened by 16mm and the total volume has been reduced by about 18.
Reliability and improved control
The new FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II has been developed based on professional feedback to provide greater control and usability over previous models. This model includes;
• Zoom Fluid Control to make the zoom ring tight or smooth
• A newly added aperture ring with click ON/OFF switch and aperture lock switch
• Two customizable focus hold buttons
• Focus ring that reacts instantly and linearly to fine tuning when focusing manually
• New hood design (82mm diameter) with opening to operate circular polarizing filters
• Design that returns the center of gravity to the housing for better handling
The updated design is dust and moisture resistant, providing added reliability for outdoor use in harsh environments. The buttons and switches have rubber gaskets and a rubber ring seals the lens housing. The front lens piece also has a fluorine coating that repels water, oil and other contaminants, making it easy to remove contaminants or fingerprints on the lens surface.
