The action plan calls on the US Congress to reauthorize the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, Defense, State, and the CIA to use technology to detect suspicious drone activity. The order accuses the administration of the Joe Biden administration of allow access to drone tracking systems, with the intent to abort your flight if any suspicious activity is detected. The action plan cited examples such as the use of devices for drug trafficking and sale, and the smuggling of cell phones into prisons.
American concern is not new
The current tensions caused by the use of drones for military purposes during the Ukrainian-Russian war have certainly increased the concerns of the US Congress as well. However, it is not today that the US government is looking for measures to better control the use of drones.

DJI, a Chinese company and global market leader, has already been hit by several US sanctions. Recently, a group of parliamentarians even sought to ban the company from operating on American soil. Something unlikely, given that DJI’s presence in the US is huge. About 77% of the drones used in the consumer market and 90% of the drones used by US security agencies are made by DJI.
In 2021, the Ministry of Finance has already added the manufacturer to the list of companies prohibited from investment. In addition, as of 2020, US companies can no longer export technology to DJI without a proper license from the Bureau of Industry and Security.
While Americans also continue their race to militarize drones, such as with the Phoenix Ghost, lawmakers should continue to pressure the government to take stronger action to enforce these devices on American soil.
