Hackers stole personal data inside Ferrari. The ransomware attack does not affect the company’s operational functions.
The car manufacturer Ferrari has fallen victim to a ransomware attack. Hackers stole customers’ personal information, including names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.
According to Ferrari, the hackers had access to a limited number of systems within the IT environment. CEO Benedetto Vigna shared this information with all affected customers.
In a separate statement, Ferrari announces that the hack has had no impact on the company’s operational functions.
According to TechCrunch, the attack could be linked to claims by ransomware group RansomEXX that it hacked into an automaker in October last year. The tech site was also able to display a RansomEXX webpage selling 7GB of data stolen from Ferrari. According to the group, these are internal documents, data sheets and recovery manuals.
The CEO of Ferrari emphasizes that he did not pay the ransom to the hackers. It is currently not known what sum the hacker collective wanted for all the data. Ferrari, meanwhile, has launched an investigation with an outside cybersecurity firm.
